| Case Study Third Time Is a Charm for New York School's "Genius Time" Sometimes, good things don't happen on the first try, and not succeeding at your initial attempt is a learning experience. Stephanie Harney, Librarian/Media Specialist at QUEST Elementary in Hilton, New York, shares this wisdom with her students, and she's speaking from experience. QUEST Elementary, which is an authorized International Baccalaureate ® Primary Years Programme School, was recently named a semifinalist in the 2015-2016 Follett Challenge after submitting entries twice before. As Harney pointed out, the journey to becoming a winner of the $30,000 prize was as valuable as the win itself. "We had applied two other times to the Follett Challenge," she explained. "Each time, we learned more about ourselves and were able to refine our entry. QUEST Elementary was founded on the ideals of fostering student-led, inquiry-based learning. Crucial steps were taken to ensure that Genius Time would be a successful experience, such as offering staff development focused on implementing a Genius Time and also the development of a school-wide inquiry model. QUEST ELEMENTARY/HILTON CENTRAL SCHOOLS 2016 FOLLETT CHALLENGE SEMIFINALIST Our win in the Challenge validates that our program is as worthwhile as we thought. This is very exciting for us!
